+This tour is part of the "Budapest through a Witcher's lens" package, a great way to discover the beautiful city of Budapest, and "The Witcher" filming locations".+
On this expertly crafted thematic tour dedicated to the highly successful Netflix series, The Witcher, you will visit the most prominent filming locations all around Hungary. Apart from Poland and the Canary Islands, many important scenes of this beloved series were shot not far from the capital of Hungary, Budapest.
Your guide and bus will meet you in the lobby of your hotel. After the transfer, you will start your tour in the village of Szentendre, in the open-air museum called the Skanzen, where Hungarian folk architecture and culture is presented through 8 regional units. One of these units was used as the birthplace of Yennefer, where her stepfather sold her to Tissaia. Some parts of the museum also appear in episode 7, as the village where Ciri steals a horse. (Please note that this part of the tour needs to be added on! See options below).
Next, you will travel to Komarom, to see the 19th century Fort Monostor, a filming location for the royal castle of Cintra. Though less impressive than in the series, it is easy to imagine yourself as one of the Nilfgaard soldiers, trying to break through the gate.
The next stop is Tata and its Medieval castle on the shore of the Old Lake. The castle was one of the most important locations of episode 5, where it poses as the impressive house of Yennefer.
After a lunch break in Tata, the next stop is Tatabanya, and most importantly the so-called Szelim Cave, a small cave with a huge interior, which was used as the dragon’s lair in episode 6.
After Tatabanya, you will go back to Budapest and visit the Kiscelli Museum, a history museum that was established in a former baroque monastery and church. The bare interior of the church was used as a background for the ballroom scene of Aretuza.
