Filming for the 23 films of the Eon Productions series has happened all around the world but many of the iconic locations as well as links to James Bond and Ian Fleming himself are here in London. The main studios used during filming (Pinewood) are slightly Northwest of London.
During this tour we drive all over London and explore many of the key locations including:
The building in Skyfall where M (Judi Dench) is summoned by Mallory (Ralph Fiennes) and informed of her retirement. Later the same building is where M is attacked by Silva (Javier Bardem) at the parliamentary enquiry only to be rescued by Bond (Daniel Craig)
The gaming club in Dr No where Bond (Sean Connery) first utters the immortal line “Bond, James Bond”
The MI6 (Secret Service) HQ which blows up in Skyfall as M looks on from the nearby bridge. The same building is where Sir Robert King (David Calder) is killed with booby trapped money in The World is not Enough
The fencing club (Blades) where Bond (Pierce Brosnan) fences with Gustav Graves (Toby Stephens) in Die Another Day
Ian Fleming’s London home where he lived during the 1930’s and 40’s and additionally the supposed address of James Bond himself
There are many other links to the films themselves, the life of Ian Fleming (his favourite bar which inspired the ‘Martini, Shaken not Stirred’ line and some of the people who have contributed greatly to the success of the franchise (John Barry who was the composer for 11 Bond soundtracks). London is Bond’s home, Fleming’s home and full of Bond connections.
For the real James Bond enthusiast, this is a tour not to be missed. Many of the places afford the chance to get out and take memorable photos.
For those visiting in 2015 there is an excellent Bond in Motion exhibition at the London Film Museum which showcases all the cars, helicopters, speedboats etc. used in the films.
